Daily Morning Practices for More Calming Energy

The way you start each day has a significant impact on how the rest of your day unfolds. Think about how you usually start each day. Do you force yourself out of bed after hitting the snooze button one too many times and rush around getting ready before heading out the door already frazzled before the day begins?

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. We’ve all been there, but this doesn’t mean we need to stay there. Making your mornings magical can seriously influence the rest of your day in an extremely positive way.

Plan on waking up 30-60 minutes earlier each day and savor that extra time. Your body will get used to it, I promise. Sip slowly on your morning cup of coffee or tea while you set an intention for the day ahead.

Rather than thinking of everything you need to get done, take a moment to think of everything you’re grateful for instead.

Give yourself time to get clear and quiet and you allow yourself to set yourself up for success. I think we can all agree that there’s nothing worse than starting your day off in a rush. A few extra minutes in the morning to center and start the day off right can truly make a world of difference.

I’ve come to refer to this magical morning time as my “morning hour of power.”

Following is a breakdown of this powerful practice:

  •  20 Minutes: Wake up 30-60 minutes earlier. Take this time to slowly drink a cup of coffee or tea, and write down intentions, affirmations, and a list of at least 10 things you’re grateful for.

  •  20 Minutes: Meditate. I personally use the app Insight Timer, which allows me to track my meditation time each day and keeps me accountable to show up on my meditation mat every morning.

  •   20 Minutes: Get your body moving. Plan on a brisk walk, job around the block, or run down the street. Try a 15-20 minute guided yoga sequence. Consider Pilates flow for a quick, slimming workout. We’re all different when it comes to getting our workout on. Just find what works for you and commit to 20 minutes 5-7 days a week.

Choosing to make your mornings magical allows for you to experience this magic throughout your day.

With love,

Dr. Marissa
