COVID-19 and Obesity - What's the Connection?

natural health medicine

We’ve heard that there is a link between people with pre-existing conditions like diabetes and an increased risk for COVID-19 infection.

But what exactly is the connection between being obese and an impaired immune system?

The CDC has updated its list of medical conditions that put a person at a higher risk of developing severe disease from COVID-19. The update was released on October 6. Here were the notable changes:

  • Smoking or having a history of smoking increases the risk of severe disease

  • Obesity increases the risk of severe disease

  • Being overweight might increase the risk of severe disease from COVID

These conditions were added to a long list of chronic conditions that were already known to increase the risk of severe diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, heart disease, cancer, and immunocompromised conditions.

We are learning more about this virus every day, but there are some themes emerging. Healthy metabolism and immune system are your best defenses if you were to contract the virus.

Even if you have one of the conditions on the CDC’s growing list of high-risk conditions, there are things you can do to strengthen your defenses. In my practice, I help people every day become stronger and healthier despite their medical conditions.

Here are a few nutritional supplements that I use with my patients to support immune function:

Or want them all in a convenient kit? These are easy daily doses to take during cold and flu season!
