15 Tips to Prepare for a Successful Body Cleanse

My cleanse program is a perfect way for you to not only reverse health problems, but to reevaluate your life and habits as a whole. You will be inspired to make changes to improve your quality of life and clear out old addictions.

Cleansing the body not only takes desire but also discipline in order to be successful and not fall off track.  The first few days may be more challenging, but proper planning will do the trick! Feeling and looking great should inspire and guide you to keep your eyes on the prize.

Here are the top 15 tips to prepare for success:

 1. Choose a good time frame - The right timing is imperative to a successful cleanse.  Choose a week that does not involve intense work commitments, a vacation, visitors, multiple events, etc.

2. Notify Your Circle - Keeping friends and family informed about your cleanse will help them support you and better understand that you are cutting temptation temporarily and healing yourself.  It will also reduce social invitations that would take you off track.

3. Get Enough Sleep - Most of us don’t get enough, but 7-8 hours per night is what is generally needed to look, feel, and perform your best.

4. Scale Back Workouts - You will not want to over-exert yourself for up to 24-48 hours before a cleanse.  It takes that amount of time for your body to heal muscles, send glucose to cells, and repair itself after a workout.  When you over-exercise prior to a cleanse your body will search for what it needs to recover properly and it may not be available. This stresses your organs, causes muscle soreness, or other.

5. Have a Plan & Back-up Plan - Vegetable soups like Carrot Ginger is great to keep as a backup plan if you feel like you need to eat something but want to stay on track.

6. Drink Enough Water - one gallon per day at least, more if you consume caffeine (which we are trying to eliminate).

7. Cut Back on Caffeine - then eliminate it if possible or switch to organic green tea.

8. No Animal Products - in the 1-2 days before your cleanse begins, aim to eat a strictly plant-based diet.  This meaning no meat, eggs, or dairy products to start the process.

9. Eliminate Processed Foods - These are often hard to digest and many have additives that can be tough to eliminate.

10. Lots of Lemon Water  - Warm water with lemon first thing in the morning is an incredible liver stimulant that begins the cleansing process before you even have your first sip of juice. Warm lemon water is a ritual that we encourage you to keep pre-cleanse, during, and post-cleanse for awesome health.

11. Stay on Schedule- Aim to eat a snack or have a smoothie every 2 to 2.5 hours and plenty of water throughout the day. Don’t let blood sugar fall so low that you feel sick or tired.

12.  Consistency is key - set a schedule for yourself such as a smoothie in the morning, and a vegetable snack every 2 hours after.  You can vary the flavors and textures to make it fun!

13. The Must Chew Now Syndrome (M.C.N) - If you are experiencing M.C.N., first check-in with yourself and see if you are hungry or craving a chewing sensation.  If you are hungry, an avocado, a green salad, a piece of fruit, or vegetable-based soup will likely curb the craving and will not undo all the good that you started. If you want to chew on something, reach for all-natural chewing gum like Spry. Or be like me and chew on a stick of natural licorice!

14.  Post-cleanse Comeback -  This should include lots of veggies and fruits, whole grains, and lean animal protein. The items to absolutely avoid the first few days after your cleanse include: red meat, dairy, alcohol, processed and/or fried foods.

15. Monitor Your Feelings - In the days following a cleanse, you have the unique opportunity to identify potential food allergies and sensitivities.  Add in one food at a time, track how you feel, and see how your body reacts. This information is invaluable for your long-term health!

EXTRA TIPS FOR AN EFFECTIVE CLEANSE:

  • Dry brushing: Dry brush your skin daily during your cleanse to help slough away dead skin cells and open your pores for the elimination process. This self-care practice also increases circulation and aids in moving lymphatic fluid.

  • Sweat it out: Breaking a sweat is your body’s most efficient method of toxin elimination. Try an Epsom salt bath, take a brisk walk, or jump rope to help your body generate heat on a cellular level. Set aside time to sauna every evening, to the point where you break a good sweat which is typically 15-20 minutes.

  • Eliminate waste: It is not uncommon to see a decrease in elimination as your cleanse progresses. Less in can equal less out. However, it is important that you pay attention to your body’s signals. If you are experiencing detox symptoms like nausea, but have not eliminated waste from your intestines, you may need to encourage elimination by using Magnesium Citrate nightly.

Regardless of how long you plan to cleanse, just know that preparation is key to your success.  If you plan well, everything will be much easier and seem to flow effortlessly. Staying on track takes discipline, so having other temptations minimized is ideal.

I wish you success and all the best!  We are here for you for further support and information.
