FDA is Changing Food Labels and Allergies

Living with a food allergy—or raising a child with a food allergy—can be terrifying.

Now the FDA may have made the situation even more terrifying.

Because of recent disruptions in the food supply chain, food manufacturers are seeing shortages of some ingredients. So, they asked for and received some relief from the FDA.

‼️ The FDA is temporarily allowing food manufacturers to make some ingredient substitutions without mandating a change in labeling ‼️

Gluten and the other 8 major allergens are still required on the label (peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, soy, wheat, fish, and crustacean shellfish).

But if you or your child have an allergy that is not required on the label, you will want to be especially cautious.

On the bright side, some companies have pledged to relabel foods if they make ingredient changes. These companies include:

👍 Enjoy Life Foods

👍 Flax4Life

👍 WOWBUTTER

👍 ...and more

The safest approach is to buy whole foods and cook from scratch. When you purchase packaged products, be sure to check with the manufacturer about their labeling policies.
